Dublin Ladies U17 Development Squad 2011

On Sunday the 11th of December 2011 the Dublin Ladies Under 17 Development Squad had there county blitz in the Garda Gaa Grounds in Westmanstown. This was the final part of what had been a 6 week training programme where the girls nominated by there clubs and had not been members of county squads during 2011 got the chance to see what it was like to be part of a county set up for a number of weeks.

During the 6 week programme they had half hour presentations on a number of different elements that if followed may help them to develop into better players primarily for there clubs and also give them an insight into what's required to make a county panel. The areas covered included injury prevention, core strength, goal setting, strength development and nutrition.

The girls also had a talk from former Dublin Star and current senior selector Angie Mc Nally. The goalkeepers also received some one to one coaching with Dublin Keeper Clionadh O Connor. On the day of the blitz two Dublin panels took part with 40 girls representing 16 clubs all getting game time against opposition from Meath and Louth.

As co-ordinator of this squad I wish to thank my fellow coaches Ken O Shea and Grace O Boyle (Westmanstown) Christina Mc Ginty and Ger Deasy (Thomas Davis) Julie Kavanagh (Garda) and Laura Bourke (Castleknock) for all there help over the duration of the squad. I would also like to thank the Garda Gaa club and its committee for making its facilities available for all of the sessions.

The Dublin Ladies County Board for all support and guidance and finally the players and there parents and clubs for taking part in the squad and hopefully getting some benefit from it.
