Na Fianna in action this Sunday in Club Final

  • Nov 23,2011

Senior Club All Ireland winners medals are surprisingly spare amongst club players in the capital in fact since the competitions inception back in 1977 some 34 years ago only one Dublin club has lifted the Dolores Tyrell Memorial Cup, Ballyboden St Endas won back to back titles in 2004 and 2005 and had also contested the 2001 final but lost out to Donoughmore of Cork.

This coming Sunday Na Fianna have a prime opportunity to try remedy that medals shortage but standing in their way is one of the most successful club teams in the history of the association a club has amongst their ranks probably the most recognised and well known  female Gaelic footballer as in one Ms Cora Staunton.

There is this myth amongst Ladies GAA people if you stop Cora you stop Carnacon but this has been proven ill advice in the past as Carnacon can call upon past and present Mayo Inter County stars such as Fiona McHale, Claire Egan, Martha Carter and Noelle Tierney  to step up to the cause if so required.

Na Fianna have had a great season capturing both the Dublin and Leinster titles plus having overcome the challenge of a Juliet Murphy lead Donoughmore in the semi-final will ensure that the Mobhi Road crew will travel to Ballymahon on Sunday well prepared and focused on the task ahead.

Key players for Na Fianna will be former Armagh All Stars Alma and Bronagh O'Donnell, ex Mayo duo Ciara McDermott and Claire O'Hara along with Dublin senior All Ireland winners Mary Nevin, Orlagh Egan and Bernie Finlay. Na Fianna have a balance of experience and talent in all sections of the field and will be hoping that all their hard work on and off the field will pay dividends on Sunday and that the Dolores Tyrell Cup will make that long awaited journey to the capital...

Throw in time in Ballymahon on Sunday is 2pm with Michael John O'Keeffe of Cork the man in charge of this mouth-watering decider.

TG4 will be showing deferred coverage of the final at 17:25pm
