Dublin Clubs fly the flag for the capital !!

  • Sep 27,2011

All three Dublin club champions are in action this coming weekend in the quarter finals of the TESCO Leinster club championships.

On Saturday Dublin senior champions Na Fianna will travel to Emmet Park to take on Longford champions Killoe. Killoe will be hoping that Captain Edel Quinn and Longford star Mary Kiernan will show the form that they displayed in their County final win over Ballymore.

However Na Fianna has a wealth of experience and talent amongst their ranks and will look to the likes of Mary Nevin, the O’Donnell Sisters Alma and Bronagh and Laura Walsh to see them over this quarter final hurdle.
Des McEnery of Westmeath is the man in charge of this clash, throw in time 5pm.

It is the turn of Round Towers and St Sylvester’s to fly the flag for the capital on Sunday when they respectively host Baile Ceatharlach (Carlow) and Mullinvat (Kilkenny) in the Intermediate and Junior TESCO Leinster club championship.

Having already dispensed with the challenge of Colmcille’ s of Longford in their first round clash (Round Towers 4-08 Colmcille’ s 2-09) Round Towers will be hoping that Maria Kavanagh, Hannah Tyrell and Natalie Behan produce the goods once again for the “hoops” and give their home supporters plenty to cheer about.  Throw in time for this encounter is 2pm with Stephen McNulty of Wicklow the man in charge of proceedings.

Following their 6-06 to 1-13 victory over St Annes of Wexford in the first round of the championsip St Sylvester’s will on Sunday play host to Kilkenny champions Mullinvat,  throw in time for this game is 2pm. The Malahide crew had an impressive run in the Dublin club championship and also gave a good account of themselves in last weekends All Ireland Sevens.

Sylvesters key player is without question Dublin star Sinead Aherne the Mullinvat defence will have to marshal the two time All Star winner closely in order to have any chance of making it through to the semi-final.  Sinead Treacy, Nicole Owens and Niamh McEvoy also process the experience to see off the challenge of the Kilkenny champions and move Syl’s into the next round of this competition. Tony McConnell of Kildare will be the man in the middle.
