Dubs aiming for two in a row!

The Dubs taking on the Kingdom in a final always has an alluring appeal about it and when these two great footballing Counties meet you are guaranteed of one thing – a cracker of a contest with football always the winner.

This Saturday the young women of Dublin and Kerry will meet for the second year in a row in the U16 All Ireland final. The girls from the Capital won last year’s encounter following a seven goal epic with the result of the game in the balance right up to the end plus the quality of football on display was exceptional.

This year Kerry may hold a slight advantage over the Dubs in that they have six players from 2010 panel back again to take on the task of overcoming the metropolitans.  Laura Rogers, Leanne Mangan and Nicole O’Connor who between them scored 1-09 out of Kerry’s 2-15 in last year’s final are once again a key part of the Kerry panel this season.

Laura Rogers who hails from Austin Stacks gave an inspirational display at midfield in last year’s final scoring five points from play. Anna Galvin who was last year’s Captain along with Kate Ní Shuilleabhain and Carmel Kate Kelliher is also part of the Kingdoms starting 15 in 2011.

Dublin’s Maria McGrath and Mollie Lamb both featured in the 2010 U16 final while Stephanie Adams along with Sinead Comerford where among the subs. Twelve of last year’s Dublin All Ireland starting 15 have all move up to the minor ranks with all 12 playing in this year’s minor final versus Cork.

Dublin come into the final unbeaten whereas Kerry suffered a defeat to Cork in the Munster round robin stage but the Kingdom were to exert revenge on the rebels with a remarkable one point win in the Munster final.

So we can look forward to an interesting tussle between two footballing sides throw in time in Nenagh is 5pm the final will be refereed by Shaun Dwane of Kildare.
