Rebels on the double for the Dubs!
This weekend will see both Dublin senior teams in championship action versus Cork.
The Counties will meet in the Tg4 senior championship quarter final and also in the last round of the Aisling McGing championship.
First up is the Tg4 senior championship quarter final which takes place on Saturday @ 4pm in St Brendan’s Park, Birr. There is no doubt that the clash of Dublin v Cork will be an interesting encounter as both teams fight it out for a place in the last four of the senior championship.
Five times All Ireland champions Cork exited the competition last year at this stage to a resilient Tyrone team who by defeating the five in a row champions caused the shock of the year. Dublin went on to defeat Tyrone in last year’s All Ireland final having suffered heart ache at the hands of the rebels in Croke Park the previous September. That defeat to Cork was to be the catalyst that drove Dublin on to victory in 2010.
The 2011 clash between the two top guns of ladies football will make compulsive viewing for all ladies football fans while Kerry, Laois and either Monaghan or Meath will be content knowing that one of the championships top contenders will be gone out of this year’s competition by 5.15pm on Saturday afternoon.
John Niland of Sligo who coincidentally also refereed the same two Counties in this years Minor All Ireland final will be in the man in charge of this do or die clash.
On Sunday the Dublin B team will welcome the Lee Siders to the capital for the last round robin fixture in the Aisling McGing Championship.
Dublin are sitting on top of the table having had wins over Mayo, Kerry, Meath and Galway, the rebels are currently sharing the second spot with Galway with both Counties on nine points.
Cork had wins over Meath and Galway they also received the match points from Mayo when the Connacht side took the decision not to travel south to play Cork. The only blip in their 2011 campaign was a one point defeat to their Munster rivals, Kerry.
Both Dublin and Cork have secured their semi-finals places still Cork have named a strong team for this clash which indicates they are travelling to the Capital with the intent on taking those vital three points how Dublin respond will be interesting!
Apart from pride the winner also has the advantage of securing a home venue for the knock out stage!
Dublin v Cork in the Aisling McGing senior B championship takes place on Sunday @ 2pm in St Margaret’s GAA grounds.
There will be live updates from both games on Twitter.
