Dubs to take on old foe Meath..

  • Aug 04,2011

While people’s attention of late has been focused on the exploits of the Dublin senior and minor teams Pat Stritch and his panel of Dublin senior B players have been working away quietly in the back ground focusing on the job in hand which is of course retaining their Aisling McGing All Ireland title.

Having lost three All Ireland finals in a row to the Rebels Dublin finally got the Munster monkey off their back in last year’s decider. The panel have been preparing away diligently and would be optimistic of being in the shake up for the 2011 final.

The Dubs opening match in the competition was versus a weak Mayo outfit who journeyed to the Capital with a small panel of players this one sided encounter offered the Dubs no challenge and gave the management and players no insight as to where they were standard wise.

Next up was a journey to the Kingdom to face a resurgent Kerry team who had the week previous defeated Cork by the minimal of margins.  This result would have been viewed as a major coup for the Kerry girls as Cork have a number of players training with their senior squad along with minor stars Emma Farmer and Jessica O’Shea amongst their ranks.

Dublin v Kerry matches are always special and a large home crowd travelled to Rathmore to watch the 2011 episode which proved to be a keenly contested match Dublin edged home on a score line of 2-11 to 1-10 with the blues goals coming from the boot of Hannah Tyrell and Denise McKenna respectively.

This Friday the opposition will be old foes Meath with both Counties senior teams in action on Saturday in the TG4 championship this Aisling McGing tie was brought forward to Friday night with a 7:30pm throw in time in Dunshaughlin.

Meath have played three games to date taking three points from Mayo but losing out to Cork and Galway respectively. However Dublin v Meath ties are always close fought encounters and Friday night’s match up should be no exception.

Des McEnery is the man in charge of this Meath v Dublin game and the Westmeath official has a busy schedule ahead of him as he is also the referee for the Tg4 senior championship game Donegal v Kerry the following evening in Birr.
