The less said about this poor excuse for a competitive game of football the better. It did nobody any good. The scoreline is one more akin to an extremely one-sided hurling game than the first round of the Aisling McGing tournament which is run on a round robin basis. So are Mayo likely to face more such drubbings? Hopefully not but probably yes. The final score and the inept display by the Mayo team is possibly a reflection of the demise Mayo ladies football finds itself in at the current time. That is not to say that the A side will not feature prominently in the championship this year. Dublin will not have gained much from this encounter bar the shooting practice. They were fit and well-prepared and indulged in some great combination play at every opportunity irrespective of the opposition. It was obvious from the start that this was going to be a one-sided affair as the Westerners were unable to offer any resistance to the Dublin tsunami that swept all before it. Once Eadaoin McGuinness scored Dublins first point in the first minute the flood gates opened and it was only a case of how great the defeat would be for Mayo. 1-5 up within eleven minutes became 3-9 after twenty-one minutes and 4-13 to no score at the interval. The procession continued in the second half. Hannah Tyrrell was dominant at midfield throughout and Denise McKenna was an excellent target person up front. Apart from scoring 1-5 she set up her fellow forwards for numerous scores. Kelly Morgan took her chances well and top scored with 2-4. Natalie Behan contributed 2-1 while Sarah Fay notched up 2-2. Midfielders McGuinness and Tyrrell were not to be outdone chipping in with 0-3 apiece. Second half sub Anna O Grady chipped in with 1-3. Mayos only score came nine minutes into the second half when Elaine Duffy found herself in space and neatly picked off her point. It received a very sympathetic round of applause from the spectators who were basking in the sunshine at St. Margarets. A player of the same name had earlier contributed substantially to Meaths win over Dublin in the Leinster TG4 Championship.
