Dublin v Meath, Leinster SF
- Jun 30,2011
Three in a row for sky Blues?
It took a long time to come and there were a few people who thought it might never happen especially when Dublin supporters looked back on the heart breaking finales in the 2003, 2004 and 2009 All Ireland finals but on the 26th of September 2010 following a empathic team performance the Brendan Martin Cup finally took up residence in the Capital, Dublin were finally All Ireland champions.
The fantastic scenes of joy that occurred at the final whistle will forever be remembered along with the emotion that was etched on players and indeed many supporters’ faces but remarkably and indeed how quickly the time has come around for Dublin to launch the defence of the hard won first All-Ireland title. Will Brendan Martin still be residing in the fair city come September?
This coming Sunday at 1pm in Portmarnock Dublin take on for the third time this year their Leinster rivals, Meath this time in the TG4 Leinster senior semi-final.
There is an old saying that familiarity breeds contempt this won’t be the case in Portmarnock come Sunday but one thing is for sure both sets of players and management have gotten to know each other very well this season and so far the Dubs have had the edge on their local adversary’s.
Dublin v Meath 2011 round one was back on the 13th of March also in the sunny township of Portmarnock in a fast and physical encounter Dublin took the league points with a 2-15 to 1-08 score line the Dublin goals can courtesy of Skerries Harps star Lyndsey Davey.
Round 2 of this Dublin v Meath show was played at the “home of the Dubs” Parnell Park this time there was some silverware on offer as the two Leinster rivals had reached the final of the division 2 Bord Gáis Energy NFL. This match was played before a large home support and was once more a good footballing contest. Goals once again proved to be the deciding factor and Dublin’s trio of Lyndsey Davey, Olivia Leonard and Amy Ring all raised the green flag, final score Dublin 3-15 Meath 2-09.
So what can supporters except to see on Sunday?
Dublin and Meath games have always been entertaining so expect a good, hard fought and compelling tussle although Dublin are the current Queens of Ladies football a lot of hard work is being done in Meath and without question they have the players and the talent to cause an upset.
