Girls from Littlepace / Ongar enjoy G4G blitz!

  • Jun 01,2011

On Saturday 28th May over 30 girls from the Littlepace/Ongar area travelled to Moyle Rovers in Clonmel to participate in the Gaelic4girls Regional Blitz Day.

The girls had participated in the 8 week Gaelic4Girls programme run by Fingal County Councils Sports Office in partnership with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association. This programme was co-ordinated locally by Jason Forbes, a mentor from Erin go Brágh GAA Club and was targeted at 8-13 year old girls from Mary Mother of Hope and Castaheaney Educate Together primary schools and Colaiste Pobail Setanta. Most of the girls had never played Gaelic football before and had learned the basics of the game in a fun and non-competitive environment.

Teams from seventeen locations all over the country participated in this Blitz and the girls were able to show off their newly acquired skills here. All the girls were presented with medals, had the opportunity to meet some County players and All-stars, and had a very enjoyable day. A special thanks to all the girls that participated in the programme, the coaches that gave up their time and the parents that travelled on the day.

Girls interested in further developing their skills should contact Jason Forbes in Erin go Brágh on 086 2024770.
