Dublin girls enjoy a fun filled family day in Carlow

Pictured below are Ellie O’ Halloran and Eimear Nolan from Na Fianna with Julie Kavanagh (Dublin U13 Manager) who participated in an Inter County football blitz in Carlow over the weekend along with teams from Carlow, Kildare, Laois, Wexford, Kilkenny and Dublin.

The Dublin U13 development panel consisted of 55 girls representing 28 clubs.
Dublin played Kildare on Nov 13th as we were twinned with them, Dublin travelled with the girls divided into 3 teams and although they were beaten in 2 of the games, the management were delighted with the effort and commitment that the girls showed on the day.

Dublin also took part in a Leinster Blitz on Nov 20th.  Dublin travelled with 3 teams and each team played a minimum of 4 games.  A great day was had by all and the level of football was very high.  Although scores were not taken on the day, we played 14 games, won 12, drew 1 and lost 1..

The management team of Julie, Christina, Bobby, Laura and Philip were surprised at the level of football that the girls played but in saying that and it was great to see some develop each week on their weaker skills (weak hand hand-pass and weak foot kick-pass) and especially the near hand tackle and each girl brought those skills into the games against Kildare and in the Leinster Blitz.

In years past Carlow has always provided the travelling footballers with some sunshine and last Saturday was no exception. Despite the welcoming blanket of fog last Saturday morning, the autumnal day gave way to some beautiful sunshine and it was a pleasure to witness parents & children ‘picnicing’ along the touch line and all the while supporting a memorable festival of ladies football.

Well done to all concerned.
