Gerry McGill steps down as Dub Manager..
- Nov 09,2010
Dublin ladies will have to defend their Leinster and All-Ireland Tg4 titles under new management following the decision of boss Gerry McGill and his selectors to step down from their positions.
Donegal native McGill who was appointed manager in November 2006 called individually each member of the 2010 All-Ireland winning squad prior to last Saturday’s medal presentation night to inform them of their decision.
In his four years at the helm he led the county to a National League Division 2 title in his first season. That was followed up with a three in-a-row Leinster title success before the crowning glory of the All-Ireland success achieved with the comprehensive defeat of Tyrone in Croke Park last September.
His sucess as manager was recognised with the presentation of the special recognition award at the O Neills Dublin ladies awards night in Croke Park last Saturday night.
Other major award winners were Sinead Aherne who was chosen as the Player of the Year and Sorcha Furlong of St.Brigid’s who claimed the Players version of the award.
Na Fianna won the overall prize for club of the year having earlier captured the gong in the large club category.
The Dublin A and B teams were presented with their medals at the gala dinner which celebrated the teams achievements well into the evening.
Next up on the celebration trail is the All Star awards night in City West next Saturday night which will surely see the county claim its largest haul of awards.
