6 Counties in Race for Silverware at Ladies Football All Ireland Finals Triple Header
CAPTAINS GATHER IN CROKE PARK AHEAD OF FINALS

The captains from the six competing counties in this year’s TG4 All Ireland Championship finals were present at Croke Park today ahead of the showpiece finals which take place in GAA Headquarters on Sunday 26th September.  All three games will be televised live by TG4.

In the senior decider, beaten 2009 finalists Dublin face Tyrone, the side who ended Cork’s five year reign as champions.  Neither county has ever won the Brendan Martin Cup so a new name will be engraved on the cup this Sunday.

Dublin won their third consecutive Leinster title beating Laois in the provincial final.  The Jackies defeated Clare before again overcoming their great Leinster rivals, Laois, to secure their fourth senior All Ireland final appearance.

Tyrone have played eight Championship games so far this season and caused the upset of the summer when they dumped the Rebelettes out of the Championship at the quarter-final stage.  Tyrone then emerged victorious after two titanic battles with Kerry to book their spot in their first All Ireland Senior final.

Donegal and Waterford will battle it out for honors in this year’s Intermediate Championship final.  Donegal are going for a double after securing the NFL Division 2 title back in May and a win on Sunday would be the county’s second All Ireland success after winning the Junior Championship in 2003.

Waterford has shown impressive form throughout this year’s Championship campaign seemingly scoring at will.  The Deise knocked a much fancied Cavan side out of the Championship and in doing so claimed revenge for their NFL Division 3 defeat at the hands of the Breffni women earlier this year.

The Junior final sees Louth take on 2009 beaten finalists Limerick.  The Wee County tasted Junior success back in 1998 whereas victory on Sunday for Limerick would mean a first All Ireland title for the Treaty County.

Pat Quill, President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, commented, “We are again looking forward with great anticipation to All Ireland finals day.  All three finals present mouth-watering ties between teams who have battled hard and shown great skill to reach an All Ireland final.

It is testament to the competitiveness of our Senior game that there will be a new name on the Brendan Martin Cup come Sunday evening.  The Intermediate final promises to be an exciting encounter between two attacking sides while the Junior final has been a highlight of finals day over the past few years.”

Pól Ó’Gallchóir, Ceannasai, TG4, said, “As we reflect on another great year in Ladies’ Gaelic Football and on the ten year partnership with TG4, it is heartening to see  that this year’s three finals will be contested by six teams that have had mixed fortunes in recent years.   Luimneach is back again at GAA headquarters and Lú are gracing Croke Park for the first time and this augurs well for the development of the sport in those counties.  Dún na nGall and Port Láirge have been in previous All Ireland Finals and that experience will surely stand them in good stead.

I ngrád na sinsear, tá  Áth Cliath ag cur chun páirce den ceathrú huair le hocht mbliana  agus is cinnte go mbeidh fonn orthu an corn a bhreith leo an uair seo tar éis briseadh croí na mblianta eile.    Ach is maith is eol dúinn an dúthracht atá ag mná Thír Eoghain agus is le misneach agus le dóchas a chuirfidh siadsan chun páirce agus súil acu toradh caithréimeach a fháil ar obair na bliana.”

All three games will be broadcast live on TG4 starting with the Junior final which gets underway at 12 noon.  The Intermediate final throws in at 2.00pm while the showpiece Senior final starts at 4.00pm.

The All-Ireland Club Sevens take place in St Sylvester’s GAA Club Malahide and Naomh Mearnog GAA Club, Portmarnock on Saturday 25th, September.  Over 90 club teams from all over the country will take part in the annual competition on the eve of the Championship finals.
