Kick Fada title goes to Meath

  • Sep 11,2010

Out in Bray this afternoon [Sat 11th], the annual Kick Fada drew a large crowd.

Bray Emmets are celebrating 125 years in the GAA and officially opened their Club House and new pitches. Uachtarán CLG Christy Cooney was on hand to unveil the plaque.

10 girls from Leinster Counties competed for the honours in the Ladies section which went to the wire on the 45m line with three remaining players. The Rules allow each player three shots at the target and each had missed the first two. On the 3rd try, the first two competitors missed so it was down to the last kick of the round.

This was Mary Sheridan [Senchalstown] of Meath who placed the ball over the bar to claim the trophy. It was also a personal best for Mary having won the competition previously in 2008 [43m] and 2003 [40m]. Eimear Miley picked up 2nd place after a kick off. The record 52m by Dublin and Ballyboden St Endas Suzanne Hughes set in 2001 still stands.

For the record, Marys brother and Meath player Brian Sheridan, who was last years Mens Champion was eliminated before the final 3 took their shots. It was a difficult round as a sudden squall started. The winner was Damien Sheridan of Dromard, Longford with second place going to Paddy ORourke of Meath.

Well done Bray Emmets on another excellent day.
