Third Time Lucky For Raheny..

  • Sep 03,2010

Raheny were crowned Dublin Junior County Champions last night following an enthralling game of football which was played at a pulsating pace and when match referee Derek McKittrick blew for full time had yielded a remarkable 12 goals!!

St Sylvesters would have come into the final as slight favourites owing to the fact that they had amongst their ranks Dublin and All Star forward Sinead Aherne and Dublin senior panellist Niamh McEvoy.

However the star of the night was without question Raheny’s full forward Jacqueline Elbert who had accounted for 6-02 of her side’s 7-09 tally. Fittingly Jacqueline was awarded the Player of the Match award. Other stars on the night for Raheny were Captain Gemma Orange in defense, Ciara Burgess at midfield and young Dublin U16 star Siobhan Woods at half forward.

“The Parish” now go onto represent Dublin in the Leinster championship when they take on the champions of Offaly (TBC) on September 18th. Two other Junior finals where played last night, Portobello came away with the cup following a 0-15 to 2-06 win over a young Clann Mhuire side.

Meanwhile down the old  M1 Na Fianna accounted for Kilmacud Crokes in the Junior C final on a score line of 3-10 to 1-13.

The County Board would like to thank both Fingallians and Innisfails GAA for hosting our finals last night and to our officials Derek McKittrick, Niamh Barrett and Laura Bourke on a job well done.
