- Apr 09,2010
This competition brings together thirty three Under 14 teams to play in a blitz league on Saturday 17th next in four venues, St Peregrine’s Mulhuddart, St Sylvesters Malahide, Ballyboden St Enda’s Firhouse Rd and Kilmacud Crokes Stillorgan. Thirty three teams is a new record for us, seven more than last year’s record. A record 30 Clubs will make up that number and on Sunday in Kilmacud, twelve teams will compete in three divisional finals. The lucky Division 1 winners will represent Dublin in National Féile na nÓg which will be hosted by Derry this summer.
On board again this year is our Féile sponsor EVERBUILD. Matt O’Dell of Everbuild says that he is delighted to be part of this festival of sport once again and that the reward is seeing the delight of so many players at the games.
Dublin Chairman Camillus Kilpatrick totted up the teams and calculates that 700 girls will play this year. “The growth is phenomenal” he said, “we had just over 500 last year and we thought we had a record that couldn’t be beaten. To have 700 girls out is just a remarkable achievement. Ladies Football has become so popular that we have a 32 page programme to compliment this event” he noted.
Dublin is this year’s European Capital of Sport and we hope that Ladies Gaelic Football will get some high profile coverage from this. Féile Committee Organiser Finbarr O
The ethos of Féile is enjoyment. Although picking up one of the three Cups on offer is a bonus! The spirit is summed up in the Players’ Charter, “We are playing for enjoyment, to be with our friends, and to make new friends".
