Dublins wish - a Cork win!

Dublin 0-11 Tyrone 1-9

A Second Half come back by underdogs Tyrone, leaves Dublin looking for a win by Cork over Mayo in two weeks time to scramble into the Bord Gais League semi-finals. And that’s all dependant on a win over Laois on the same day.

The last home game of the rounds happened today out in Naomh Mearnóg and Dublin were well in control for the first half. But there were signs as although the Jackies had most of the possession they failed to convert their efforts into scores. True, the Tyrone defence were excellent and created cul-de-sacs for the Dublin forwards, but the level of possession didn’t materialise on the score board. Cliodhna O’Connor was tested little at her end and the only Tyrone score came in the 17thminute when an opportune shot presented itself and the ball ricocheted off the post and into the back of the net. Paul Swift blew up the proceedings just after Dublin’s 7th point in the 36th minute.

Tyrone came out all guns blazing in the second half putting two points on the board with the opening volleys. The Jackies opened their own account in the 8thminute. The kick out was converted into a run up the park and Tyrone answered with another of their own. The Dubs replied with two on the 11th& 12th minute. And that’s where the Jackies stopped. Tyrone kept up the pressure. Point by point they chipped away at the Dublin lead. If there was one feature of this game it was the amount of stoppage time added. In the first half it was 6 minutes and when Tyrone drew level with 3 minutes left on the clock, the referee announced that he was adding 7 more. This spurred Tyrone on all the more and then they went ahead for the first time in the game. Although reduced to 14 players they clocked another point up before a cracker off the toe of Orla Egan was tipped over the bar by the Tyrone ‘keeper in the 35thminute. That was to be the last score of the game as true to his word, Paul Swift played out the 37 minutes.
