- Nov 28,2009
The Annual Awards night held in the Red Cow Inn on 20th November was an outstanding success.
The M.C. for the evening was none other than RTE’s Joanne Cantwell who kept matters ticking over very smoothly. County Chairperson, Camillus Kilpatrick, welcomed everybody and spoke proudly of another great year for Dublin Ladies Football despite not winning the senior finals.
The Seniors were presented with their Leinster winners medals and All-Ireland runners-up medals. Senior A “Players Player of the Year Award” was presented to Siobhan McGrath of Thomas Davis while Noelle Comyn of Ballyboden St. Enda’s was the “Management Player of the Year”.
The Senior B team received their runners-up medals from the Aisling McGing Cup competition. Players’ “Player of the Year” for the Senior B team went to Sinead Finnegan of Fingallians while the “Management Award” went deservedly to Sarah Stritch from St. Margarets.
The Minors collected their Leinster winners’ medals. The Minor awards went to Orla Egan of Na Fianna and Rachel Byrne from Clannagael Fontenoy.
Marking Dublin’s first entry into an All Ireland win, the Junior winning team of 1989 were honoured at the ceremony. The vast majority of that team were present for the occasion. A special presentation was made to each of the players and each received a specially commissioned Dublin Ladies jersey to mark the occasion.
Dublin GAA Board Chairperson, Gerry Harrington, was present for the ceremony as was Cormac Farrell and Louise Kelly of O Neills along with representatives from Elverys. Sean McMullan, President Leinster Ladies Football also attended.
John Sheridan, Kilmacud Crokes, was deservingly inducted into the Dublin Ladies Football Hall of Fame. Parnells GAA club were awarded the DLGFA club of the year award.
Dinner was followed by dancing and Dublin celebrated another great year well into the wee small hours!
Dublin picks ParnellsThe “Best Club 2009” award went to Parnells at this year’s Dublin Annual Awards and Gala night in the Moran Red Cow Inn.
This ‘competition’ is fast becoming a popular feature of the Dublin Calendar having been introduced at last year’s awards night where Clontarf brought home the mantelpiece decoration. Based on an allocation of points for such things as increase in membership, attendance at courses, volunteer commitment, attention to administration and such matters, Clubs with the highest score in each of three ‘membership size’ categories are awarded ‘Club of the Year’ in their group.Paying tribute to the network of GAA Clubs in Dublin through which Cumann Peil Gael na mBan is growing, Dublin County Secretary Eoghan MacAodhagáin referred to the amount of dedication and effort put into the organisation by Club Volunteers to provide games for girls and ladies in their communities. “It is the Clubs which are the strength of the County” he said.
The three category awards went to Parnells; Round Tower Clondalkin and Kilmacud Crokes.
To generate a climax, the overall winners were kept in suspense until later in the evening when Camillus Kilpatrick, County Chairman was given the sealed envelope. Silence descended on the ballroom as he unwrapped the folded note inside and there was a great cheer when he called out Parnells into the microphone. In accepting the award, Tony Fitzpatrick paid tribute to his colleagues in the Club for the work that they had put in. He said that a key part of the success of Parnells is the involvement of parents, past and current players who are living or working in the Coolock and Artane areas of Dublin.
