- Oct 04,2009
Leinster Senior Club Championship Quarterfinal. Confey (Kildare) 2-10 Na Fianna (Dublin) 1-11. Commiserations to Na Fianna on exiting the Club Championship at Confey on Sunday last. Despite conceding a goal after thirty-four seconds they recovered well to lead by 1-9 to 2-3 at the interval without the services of Nora Stapleton. An injury to Mary Nevin added to their woes and she was replaced at half time by Catherine McAteer. The sides were level going into injury time but two late points secured victory for Confey. Aisling Jennings tormented Na Fianna throughout scoring 2-6. Siobhan Colleran top-scored for the Dublin side with 1-1.
Leinster Intermediate Club Championship Quarter final. St. Brigid’s (Dublin) 2-16 Balyna (Kildare) 2-8. Congratulations to St. Brigid’s on a comprehensive victory over their Kildare opponents at Blanchardstown on Sunday last. This game was as good as over by half time with the home side leading by 2-11 to 1-2. This allowed them to make a number of substitutions which helped the Kildare team get back into the game. St. Brigid’s were comfortable throughout and now go on to compete in the semi-finals next weekend. Their County players showed no ill effects from Dublin’s loss to Cork the previous week and were very much to the fore. There were outstanding displays from Elaine Kelly, Katie Murphy, Colleen Barrett and Noelle Healy. Details of the semi-final fixture will appear on the website as soon as arrangements are confirmed by Leinster Council.
Leinster Junior Club Championship Quarterfinal. St. James (Wexford ) 1-21 St. Margarets’s (Dublin) 3-3. Commiserations to St. Margarets on losing to a very strong Wexford outfit at Ramsgrange on Saturday last. The odyssey may be over but they have done themselves and their club proud. When one considers that most of this side is under sixteen it has been an amazing season and achievement to get this far. They will have learned from the experience and it will stand them in good stead for the future.
A Strategic Plan Workshop for Ladies Gaelic Football takes place in Croke Park on Saturday 17th October from 10am to 2.30pm. The purpose of the workshop is to develop a National Strategy for the next seven years for the Association. In order to make this a thorough and comprehensive exercise all clubs throughout the country are invited to send along two delegates, one player, one club representative to the forum. It is vitally important that all Dublin clubs are represented there and make a contribution. You may contact Paula Prunty at 018363156 to reserve your place.
