Cuala Ladies star in RTE Celebrity Bainisteoir

  • Mar 08,2009

There was a festival of football and entertainment in Dalkey this weekend when Cuala hosted round 1 of RTÉs Reality TV series. Showcasing Cumann Peil Gael na mBan, Cuala Ladies took on St Patricks Dromahair in an opener to the main event.

The game commenced with a parade of Cualas Camogie Academy doing the cheerleading honours with their pom-poms.
The Throw-in went Dromahair’s way and  the Cuala defence came under serious pressure from the off. But the solid wall held and the game soon changed direction. Cuala put the first and second point on the board but only after the clock was in the sixth and eight minute of the game. Dromahair replied and the game progressed in a tit for tat fashion for the rest of the half. On the whistle the score was 1-7 to 1-6 in favour of the home side.

The second half started out much like the first with St Patricks winning the ball. The game opened up and both sides settled into it early on. With a slight wind advantage, not taken by the opposition in the first half, Cuala began to edge ahead. But the breakthroughs when they came, were potentially dangerous. The Cuala defence caused problems for the Dromahair attack and several wides were called by the Umpire. The Leitrim Ladies did pull off two cracking goals though which put the game into contention. But it was not enough when their total game tally was 3-8 when the final whistle blew. It was a good game with plenty of free flowing football. Just two of Cualas points came from frees out of the home sids total of 5-12.

The Cuala Panel were:
