The ‘Real’ Ladies Day!!

When you hear the term ‘Ladies Day’ you normally think of designer outfits and fancy hats but the ‘Real’ ladies day is about Jerseys, hats, scarves and headbands. The Ladies All Ireland Finals take place on Sunday 28th September in Croke Park and it is guaranteed to be a great day. The record for attendance at the final is 35,000 spectators, second only to the Women’s World Cup Final, and the Association aim to break this every year.
People will never get such value for money and witness the atmosphere involved with All Ireland Finals Day like this.
The Junior decider kicks off the day at midday with London facing Derry. London were beaten in last years final so they will be hoping for a more successful trip across the water this time. The Intermediate final will take place at 2pm with Tipperary taking on Clare which is sure to be a close match. The final game of the day will see Cork and Monaghan taking centre stage. The Cork team are going for three in a row while Monaghan are hoping to upset the cards and claim their first senior title since 1997.
Although it is disappointing not to see Dublin featuring there are still strong links to the Capital in all matches. In the Junior match Michelle Mc Ateer from Derry has links with her father living in Dublin while in the Intermediate decider Edel Hanley, Olivia Mc Carthy, Aoife O’Dwyer, Edith Carroll, Sinead Delahunt, Gillian O’Brien (all Tipperary) and Ann Marie Callinan (Clare) all have relations in the county. Michaela Newell (Monaghan) and Sile Johnston (Cork) ensure that ‘The Dub’ links continue into the Senior Final and they will also be hoping to drum up support from their relations in The Capital. A large number of the girls on all teams also attend colleges in Dublin so there will be plenty of faces for you to recognise.
It is compulsory that all clubs purchase six tickets for the finals so I would encourage you not to waste these tickets but seize the opportunity to bring members of your club to this great day. Croke Park is based here in Dublin so there is easier access for members here. These members will not get tickets at such reasonable prices to attend any event in Croke Park and the fact that it is out National finals makes it all the more prestigious.
Adults tickets are only €25, students/ OAP’s €10 and under 14’s €8. There are also group rates available for under 16’s (minimum 10) with tickets only €5 per juvenile and every adult per 10 at €5 also. Family tickets are also available and all enquiries can be made through the Ladies Gaelic Football Association Office at 018363156. This is guaranteed to be a fun filled day for all so come and savour the atmosphere of this exciting day. In the words of Hector, “Let Yourself Go!”
