Under 12 B Blitz

Dublin  Under 12  girls Packed another bus and travelled to Carlow to compete in the Leinster B Blitz on  Saturday 30th August.

The rain held off for most of the day and the football was fantastic.  We entered three teams, A, B and C and they played in divisions one two and three respectively. Each team played matches of either 10 or 15 minutes with the top two teams in each group making the final.

The C team were promoted from division 4 having won the A blitz in June this proved to be very difficult.  They lost their first match to Kildare and won their next, they needed to win the last match against Offaly to make the final – there were some outstanding performances form our team getting to within one point of making the final – well done to all.

The B team won their first two matches well,  they were playing superb football with some stunning performances.  They then came up against Westmeath and were beaten by a goal and a point – they qualified for the final and this was against Westmeath.  Our girls put in a stunning performance battling all the way and won the Division 2 Final after a tightly contested match – this was fantastic and this was the only team in the A blitz not to win their Division.

The A Team started well winning their firs match in comfort  against Wexford they then met the Kildare team they had played in the final of the A Blitz and again won this match they then had a comfortable win over Laois but in this match we lost one or two of  our girls to injury.  We then played Meath and again had a comfortable victory. This placed Dublin in the final.  Wexford had to play Kildare for a place in the final against Dublin.  This match ended in a tie and there was a Point shoot out for a place in the final with Wexford winning after sudden Death.

The final was a very tight match with Dublin 1 point to nil at half time – the second half was tit for tat with Wexford scoring then Dublin and the Dublin got a goal with two minutes to go to give them a two point advantage then from nowhere Wexford clinched it with a late goal – it was stunning football from all sides but obviously a huge disappointment for the girls who fought so hard until the bitter end.  Well done to Wexford and our girls bore their defeat with dignity and will learn from this and live to battle another day.

All three teams now hold a Leinster Blitz Cup for 2008

Well done to the Managers of the three teams Diarmuid Byrne. Garry Morrissey and Maurice Brew. Well done to all the girls involved and thanks to all the parents for their continued support.
