“It’s a great honour to win this award, but it’s a reflection of the hard work and spirited performance of the team this year,” said the 22 year old.

This is the second time the St. Sylvester’s forward has won the award and her tally against Laois proved crucial as Dublin went on to win by three points.

“The Leinster final was a very important game for us and we’d been looking forward to it all year.  It’s great to have made such an important contribution towards winning the Leinster title, but there really were so many excellent performances from the whole team on the day.”

Dublin will now play Ulster finalists Tyrone in the TG4 All-Ireland quarter final on 23rd August. Looking towards the match, Aherne said, “It will have been six weeks since the game against Laois so we’ve a lot to do.  It’ll be tough, but we’re looking forward to it.”
