Lucan Lift Junior D Championship

This final pitted Lucan Sarsfields against new commers to Ladies Football Clann Mhuire in this Junior D Championship Final. It was the many years of experience gained by the Lucan squad and strong ball carriers that deceided this exciting game. All bar one player on the Clann Mhuire team was above the age of 18, as they contested their first championship final at Adult level.

The teams went in at half time with Lucan ahead by 3 points after a late flurrish in the first half. In the opening 15 minutes Clann Mhuire owned the ball and demonstrated great blocking and shooting skills. When Lucan got going at midfield and at half forward, their superiour strenght and experience made a difference to the scoreboard. Oonagh Whyte of Clann Mhuire was awarded the player of the match award at the end of the game. Oonagh was a constant thorn in the side of the Lucan defense, and kicked several socres form the "end line" that Maurice Fitz would be proud of.

For Lucan it was their third final in as many years and the hunger to win every breaking ball, chase every lost cause and work their socks off was evident in all the members of the panel from number 1 to 25.

It was great to see Ann OShaughnessy come out of retirement to stand between the posts for Lucan. Ann who won an All Ireland  with Galway and mother of current Dublin Mens senior player Stephen OShaugnesey twarted Clann Mhire with some fine handling and was in constant control of her area. Ann was not afraid to keep the full-back line in front of her on their toes with contant reminders of their duties. Maybe Ann could give Stephen Cluxton of Dublin, some pointers on how to get the best from her son Stephen when they both play together in the future.
