DUBLIN 3-11 MEATH 0-7 ST MARGARETS GAA CLUB 2/07/2008
Dublin Senior B team got their first win of the season with a hard fought victory against neighbours Meath in a great match played in sunny St Margaret’s Gaa club last Wednesday night.
The game started with Meath gaining the early initiative from free taker Emma Harris with 2 points but Dublin soon responded with point from Sarah Denvir and classy full forward Denise McKenna to level things up. The teams then traded points before Mc Kenna powered through the Meath defence and crashed the ball to the Meath net to finish a great Dublin move and Captain Teresa Mollohan opened her account with a free to give the Dubs a hard earned advantage of 1-5 to 0-4 at half time.
Meath started the second half well with points from Orla Tuite but the Dubs responded with points from full forward McKenna and Teresa Mollohan to keep Dublin in front before a superb solo effort from Sarah Denvir saw her evade the Meath defence before finishing the ball to the top corner of the net in spectacular fashion much to the joy of the large Dublin crowd who were present. Meath again rallied with points from Emma Harris but as they pushed forward gaps appeared in their defence which was again exploited by the brilliant Denvir as she nipped in for her second goal to ensure victory for the Jackie’s.
Overall the Dubs deserved the win with some great performances form goalkeeper Lynn Dowling defenders Aoife Greene Sorcha Furlong and Aine Deasy and debutant Ruth Collins in midfield. Up front the Teresa Mollohan played the Captains role scoring 6 points and Sarah Stritch and Nicola Daly worked tirelessly all night along with Elena Griffin and the superb double act of Denvir and McKenna
