U14 ‘A’ Leinster Championship; Dublin vs Laois; Wed 7th May 2008

Dublin bowed out of the Ladies U14 ‘A’ Leinster Championship on Wednesday evening when they succumbed to a very strong Laois team on a score line of 2-5 to 1-10.

Dublin started extremely well with points from Siobhan Woods, Lauren Ebbs and Maria Kenny. At this point Dublin led by 0-4 to 0-1 and were moving the ball well from defence to attack. The Dublin half back line in particular were providing good possession to the front line. However Laois rallied towards the end of the first half and the teams were level at half time 0-4 to 0-4.

Dublin lost their captain, Claire King, through injury shortly after half time and Laois started to take a stranglehold in midfield. As Laois came forward Norah Harney, the Dublin goalkeeper, made a series of excellent saves to thwart the Laois attacks.

Laois started to pull away and led by two points when they were awarded a penalty which they converted. A free kick from Siobhan Woods reduced the deficit and goals from Siobhan Woods and Lauren Ebbs reduced the lead to two points. Dublin piled on the pressure in an attempt to win the game however it was not to be for the Dubs as Laois held on to win the match.

The Dublin girls played their hearts out and gave everything to the cause. However the Laois team, who had numerous very strong physical ball carriers, deservedly went through on the night.
