‘BaRuGa’ to be launched in D24!
- May 01,2008
News is quickly spreading of a very exciting event that is taking place in Tymon Park and the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght in early June. Ladies Gaelic Football, Leinster Women’s Rugby and Basketball Ireland are coming together for the first time to launch a sports summer camp exclusively for teenage girls in the Dublin 24 area.
The multi sports fun camp will launch under the name ‘BaRuGa - Girls Play Ball’ and will take place over one week from June 9th – June 13th inclusive. All associations are very excited about this programme and feel it will be an excellent opportunity for local girls in the community to become involved in sports.
Below are some further details for the camp.
The project is a multi sport summer camp for girls (12-18yrs). This target group is the most at risk with regards to their fall off in sports participation. The camp will be run over the course of a week and will include Rugby, Basketball and Football for girls. The girls will learn the basics of all three sports and the hope is that they will continue playing one or all in the future. There will be links to the local rugby, Gaelic and basketball teams to ensure that there is a follow on for the participants. Being involved in sport develops confidence and leadership skills within this target group. It is hoped that these girls will become role models within their community.
The organizers of this event are namely Cathy Quinn – Basketball Ireland Development Officer, Caitriona Bergin, Leinster Women’s Rugby Development Officer, and myself, Lyn Savage Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football Development Officer. If anyone is interested in participating in this camp they can fill in the attached application form and forward it with the fee of €10.
