In a very difficult game to play football due to strong windy conditions, both Sylvester’s & Brigid’s delighted the many supports with a very good game of football in this Division 1 league game.
At this level with the 6foot wide goals posts and with 30 players on the pitch along with the windy conditions, scoring chances were going to be at a minimum. Sylvester’s and Brigit’s did demonstrate good score taking under the circumstances.
Both teams were a credit to their clubs and mentors with the sportsmanship and attitude displayed. Both sets of girls obeyed the referee’s decisions and listened to the comments of the referee and applied the suggestions from the referee as the game progressed. One noticeable skill posed by both teams was the blocking of balls that were being kicked by their opponents, which requires great timing and courage which was in abundance during this game.
Sylvester’s won the toss and decided to play with the benefit of the wind for the first third, during this time period Sylvester’s put most of their scores on the board, 1-2 to 0-0. The Sylvester’s full-back constantly foiled any attacks from Brigid’s with her commanding presence around her goals, by intercepting any loose balls and clearing her lines to great effect. The Sylvester’s goal was quite fortunate when it bobbled on the ground and bounced over the Brigid’s keepers outstretched arms.
During the second time period Brigid’s scored 1-1 to Sylvester’s 0-1.
In the third time period, with Sylvester’s playing into the strong wind, Sylvester’s scored another 3 points to Brigid’s 1 point.
Best for Brigit’s were Laura Page, Alex Griffin, Alannah Mc Enroe.
Best for Sylvester’s were Kate Sullivan, Clodagh Doyle, Anne Brennan.
