Depleted Lucan side take the points at Mobhi road

Sarsfields gave 15 year old Ellen Downes a debut in midfield as an injury hit Lucan team took control early on in the game. Na Fiannas Maeve Farrell was given a torrid time by Caoimhe Moran in the opening 20 minutes with Moran scoring the opening point and adding a goal shortly after. As the game settled down Lucan dominated in midfield with K McCormack and Ellen Downes working well together.

Both sides squandered easy scoring chances before Leanne Behan and C Moran added a point and a goal for Lucan. Na Fianna had little joy in trying to break down a resolute Lucan defence with Cliona McDonald mopping up any loose ball that broke through the half back line, but Na Fiannas persistance paid off with 2 points scored before the break keeping them within touching distance of Lucan. Sarsfields continued to dominate in the early stage of the second half with a point from a free from debutant E Downes with E Twomey adding another from play. Na Fianna battled well but failed to convert a number of scoring opportunities they had made converting just 1point when they began to dominate the visitors. But Lucan struck back with goals from Orla O Toole and Helena O Toole. An entertaining game played in good spirit.

Final Score: Na Fianna 0-3pts, Lucan Sarsfields 4-04pts.

UNDER 14 DIV 2 FOXROCK-CAB v KILMACUD CROKES

FoxCab u14 had their opening 2008 Division 2 league encounter last night against local rivals Kilmacud Crokes. In between the thunder and hail showers the match was played in good spirits but the horrible weather ensured it had to be endured rather than enjoyed.

A brisk opening goal by Kim was quickly answered by Crokes and both sides tagged on goals and points for the remainder of the first half with Crokes up by a goal and 2 pts at half time. The break was a short affair as the light was fading fast but FoxCab made a determined effort and two quick goals soon had both teams divided by the smallest of margins.

This was as close as it got as Crokes started to deliver more and more ball from midfield and half forwards to their full forward line who used it with great effect. The scoreline finished FoxCab 5-1 and Kilmacud 8-8.

This was the first competitive match for the newly amalgamated former u13 teams and with Dublin u14 corner forward Emma Lennon and midfielder Emily Carvill both out ill it was always going to be tough against former fellow Div 1 club Crokes. Still, team manager Seamus MacKenna was happy with a 5-1 scoring contribution from the team and is confident the team can build on that performance for their second round home encounter with Scoil UiChonaill next Monday evening at 7pm in Kilbogget.
