Ballyboden too strong for Seneschalstown
- Jan 07,2008
12 months ago when these two sets of champions clashed in the provincial final of the Vhi Healthcare Ladies Club Championship down in Clane the Dubliners scraped through with the bare minimum to spare after a thrilling contest. Fast forward to a magnificent Autumunal Sunday October afternoon a round earlier than last year and the winning gap for the same side is a whopping 21 points.
The Meath ladies were short several of the side that lost out so agonisingly in that afore mentioned 2006 decider. Amongst those absent from the ranks were the likes of Grainne Nulty and her loss was severely felt as they were swept aside by the 4 in a row chasing Dubliners.
Karen Hopkins kicked the opening score on 2 mins and from there Boden assumed complete and absolute control certainly for the first 22 mins. By the time the stopwatch had ticked to that point, the blue and white striped shirt girls had established a 2-8 to no score lead. The goals in that spell were scored by Edel Drury on 13 and Orla Scollard not long over a minute later. Scollard was one of several Boden players enjoying her afternoon in the superb October sunshine, she stood
on a personal tally of 1-3 before a Fiona Mc Mahon free put Seneschalstown on the scoreboard 8 mins before the half time break. The Meath champions to their credit rallied a little with a further burst of 3 unanswered scores Mary Sheridan with 2 and Emma Harris raising white flags. They did get the arrears to 8 points 2-8 to 1-3 but any slim chance of a major comeback were firmly dashed shortly after when Boden corner forward Edel Drury bagged her second goal of the afternoon. Seneschalstowns beleaguered defence was breeched again shortly after by Ciara Ferry for her sides 4th goal. That act was the final of the first half which saw Boden enjoy a 4-9 to 1-3 lead.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Boden driving at the visitors defence almost relentlessly. Good work back deep by the likes of Gemma Fay and Louise Kelly were acting as a solid platform for setting up attacks. The procession of scores was carried on by Karen Hopkins who finished with 1-4 in total sub Susan Hughes and Sarah Denvir aswell as Louise Kelly and midfielder Caroline Conway who all contributed to their second consecutive easy win in the 2007 Leinster Club Championship.
