VHI Healthcare All-Ireland ladies JFC final Foxrock/Cabinteely (Dublin) 1-11 West Clare Gaels (Clare) 0-7 By Eamonn O’Molloy

STAR-STUDDED Foxrock/Cabinteely claimed the VHI Healthcare All-Ireland ladies junior club championship at Toomevara yesterday in only their seventh year in existence. A goal with just over ten minutes remaining from Sinéad Murphy sealed the win for the Dublin side, who dominated most of the game and led 0-8 to 0-3 at half-time. West Clare started well, and scores were level at 0-3 each after the first quarter. But wing-back and player-of-the-match Ciara Murphy took control to shoot the first two of her four points from play and put her side in a commanding position.

Former Louth player Anne-Marie Murphy and centre-half forward Amy Ring also starred for the winners, while Majella Griffin and the Kelly twins, Maria and Sarah led the West Clare effort. The win completed a great few days for Foxrock skipper Marla Candon, who also captained the Underdogs last week, and a great week for the club, who recently won their first Dublin minor crown.

Scorers:

Foxrock/Cabinteely: A Ring 0-5 (3f), C Murphy 0-4, S Murphy 1-0, AM Murphy and L Stafford 0-1 each.
West Clare Gaels: M Kelly 0-3, M Griffin 0-2 (1f), D Geaney and N Lardner 0-1 each.
