Minor Team named for Wexford clash

Leinster Minor Championship

Dublin v Wexford

Sunday February 21st, 1:15pm

Venue: St Peregrines GAA Club

Reigning Leinster champions Dublin will have to do without the services of experienced midfielder Erica Byrne for Sunday MFC clash with Wexford.

Dubs midfielder Erica Byrne is adhering to concussion protocols after being on the receiving end of a hefty challenge in Dublin’s opening championship game to Laois. Hannah O’Dea from Cuala will partner Julia Buckley at midfield on Sunday in place of the injured Byrne who has been advised to rest from all sporting activity for up to 21 days.

Minor manager Martin McDonnell could have further selection complications to deal with as five of his panel namely Tarah O’Sullivan (Captain), Muireann O’Gorman, Hannah O’Dea, Billie Kate Huggard and Grace O’Shea are all involved in Saturday’s LIDL Post Primary senior schools All Ireland semi-final with Colaiste Iosagain.

McDonnell will be hoping that all five players can come through Saturday’s game unscathed.

Last years All Ireland Junior PPS champions, Colaiste Iosagain take on reigning PPS Senior champions Glenamaddy in Mullingar on Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm

One would have to question the fixture planning with five players being asked to play two vital championship fixtures less than 23 hours apart.

Dublin County Board had sought a new date for the Wexford fixture.  The official Dublin request was not granted despite nearly a month gap between the Wexford game and their next scheduled 3rd round fixture versus Offaly on March 20th.

Other news from the Dublin minor camp, Dub’s manager Martin McDonnell has added former senior Kildare and current DCU manager Stephen Maxwell to his management team. Last September Ballyboughal club man Maxwell, led Kildare to the 2015 Intermediate All Ireland final only to lose out on the day to a resilient Waterford side.
