Same 15 for NFL clash with Mayo
Dublin have named an unchanged starting 15 for this Sundayâs round 2 Lidl Ladies NFL clash with Mayo.
Last weekend both Dublin and Mayo got their respective league campaigns off to a good start with victories over Kerry and Cork respectively.
Once again All Star Cora Staunton led the way for Mayo on the score board accounting for 1-06 of her sideâs tally of 2-08. Dublin on the other hand had a good spread of players on target with no less than 8 different scorers on the Dubs score card in their win over Kerry. Full forward Niamh McEvoy lead the way with two goals one in each half while McEvoyâs club mate Sinead Aherne signalled her return to Inter county football following her year away with 4 points.
On analysing their defeat Kerry will not be happy with their wides tally clocking up 10 in the first half alone. The pressure applied to the Kerry forwards from Dublinâs defenders was a contributing factor in Kerryâs wides count with Olwen Carey, Muireann Ni Scanaill, Leah Caffrey and Sinead Finnegan displaying excellent form in the Dubs back line.
Last season Mayo pulled off a shock defeat over the Dubs with Gregory McGonigle chargers possibly playing their poorest football of the season against their Connacht rivals. That 0-13 to 0-08 defeat came about following a tough physical encounter riddled with frees and stoppages despite Dublin being at home in DCU.
Dublin know they have to hit top form from the outset on Sunday as Mayo are a strong physical side who have a number of seasoned performers amongst their ranks. The aforementioned Staunton along with Fiona McHale, Martha Carter plus Sarah Rowe and Aileen Conroy will be determined to see off the challenge of the Dubs especially in front of their home crowd.
The action in Swinford gets underway at 2pm with Dublin LGFA having live score updates via their Twitter account @dublinladiesg
