Dublin Junior B Championship Final:

O’Tooles 3-12 Ballyboden St Endas B 0-03

After losing the previous two championship finals O’Tooles arrived into Lawless Memorial Park fully intent on capturing the Junior B crown at the third time of asking.

The Blunden Drive club got the perfect start when half forward Emma Lawlor scored her sides opening goal of the game with less than a minute gone on the clock. Lawlor was soon on the score card again when she popped over a fine point to push her side four points clear before Ballyboden St Endas got an opportunity to settle.

O’Tooles Captain for the night Aisling Kane and centre back Rachel Doughlas were in commanding form at the heart of the O’Tooles defence ensuring any hint of a Ballyboden scoring threat was quickly extinguished.

At the other end of the field O’Tooles diminutive and speedy half forward Diana Farrell was causing the Ballyboden defence some major problems with her movement and excellent link up play. Farrell was also registering scores both from play and the dead ball. Within the opening 10 minutes Farrell had kicked over three points in quick succession to give her side a 1-04 lead.

Ballyboden St Endas veterans Aisling Farrelly, Joanne O’Sullivan and Sorcha Farrelly tried very hard to bring their side into the game but the Firhouse team lacked the energy and pace of their opponents.

Ballyboden St Endas only point of the first half came in the 25th minute when full forward Sorcha Farrelly raised the white flag with a well taken point.

O’Tooles drive and determination ensured that they finished the first the half strongly. Full forward Katie Maher and centre forward Erica Behan both tapped on scores while the fore mentioned Farrell tagged on her team’s final point of the half.

Ballyboden missed a goal opportunity just before the half time whistle when full forward Sorcha Farrelly reacted quickly to a rebound shot that came off the cross bar only to see her strike saved brilliantly by the advancing O’Tooles keeper Beth O’Reilly.

O’Tooles therefore took a 9 point lead into the dressing room as the score board read O’Tooles 1-07 Ballyboden St Endas 0-01.

O’Tooles appeared to pick up the tempo for the second half despite Ballyboden St Endas making some changes in personnel. The decisive scores of the second half came in the 38th and 56th minutes when Katie Maher got a hand to a Diana Farrell free to divert the ball to the back of the Ballyboden net. While Rachel Doughlas finished a superb move up the field with a thundering shot which sailed past the helpless Danielle Aylmer in the Boden goal.

Katie Maher gave an excellent second half performance at full forward for O’Tooles finishing the game with a personal tally of 1-05 and all from play.

Other stand out performances for the newly crowned champions came from Rachel Douglas, Kate Fitzgibbon and the player of the match, Diana Farrell.

Joanne O’Sullivan, Teresa Molohan, Anna Nolan and Aisling Farrelly gave their all to the Ballyboden cause.
