Climb4Clare - A message from Helen O'Rourke (CEO of LGFA)

Firstly we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting all the Climb4Clare Fundraising initiatives around the country so far and we urge you to continue these efforts. It is amazing to see so many people coming together to make a difference and raise money to bring a vital service into the country. We are also delighted that due to the fundraising efforts throughout the country it allowed us to work with both the Irish Cancer Society and Cancer Focus NI therefore allowing us to provide training for CLIMB® facilitators in counties around Ireland to ensure the provision of this wonderful programme to families in need at a very stressful time in their lives following the cancer diagnosis of a family member.

We are delighted to have official dates set for the first CLIMB Programmes resulting from the training - These are both in Dublin with the programme starting in ARC South Circular Road on Wednesday 22nd April and on Thursday 30th April in ARC Eccles Street. Full details can be obtained directly from the ARC Centres. Please forward this information to any families you feel may benefit from attending the CLIMB® Programme.

CLIMB® is run over six weeks and the groups run in the evenings so as not to disrupt school attendance. It’s an enjoyable, sharing, interactive experience and a time for the children to come together to deal with their feelings. Throughout the programme the children will develop an understanding of cancer and from this understanding the myths and fears that children can hold about cancer will be dispelled. The groups are creative, using drama, arts and play. They are also based on having fun together and meeting new friends. CLIMB® stands for Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery.

We would appreciate if you can forward this email to all members of your club and any families that you feel will benefit from CLIMB®. The centres currently trained up are Cork Arc Cancer Support, Cuan Cootehill & Cavan Centre Social Support Group, Cancer Focus Northern Ireland (Cookstown), Arc Dublin South, Arc Dublin North, Tuam Cancer Care, Hand in Hand Children’s Cancer Charity Galway, Éist Carlow Cancer Support Centre and Portlaoise Cuisle Cancer Care and we look forward to programmes in all venues in the coming months.

It is because of your generosity that CLIMB® is now available in your area and we hope that your members will see the benefits from it. Please feel free to contact your local centre and we, at LGFA, will continue to work with you all to fundraise for this cause and ensure that it is sustainable into the future.
