One change for Dubs for Mayo clash

Dublin has announced their starting 15 for this Sunday’s third round NFL clash with Mayo.

There is one change from the team who played out a hard fought draw with Galway two weeks ago as Nicole Owens comes into the side in place of the unavailable for selection due to college commitments Sarah McCaffrey.

Owens is only now coming back to full fitness having picked up an injury prior to the commencement of the national league. The St Sylvester’s forward is a known prolific goal scorer who enjoyed a terrific U21 campaign for Dublin last season.

Dublin boss Greg McGonigle will be hoping that Owens can link up well with club team mate Niamh McEvoy in the Dublin full forward line. McEvoy has shown terrific form for Dublin in her new position on the edge of the square scoring an impressive 1-01 from play against Galway while also setting up a number of scoring opportunities for her fellow team mates.

The Dubs have rejigged the lay out of their team line out slightly to make way for Owens introduction into their full forward line. All Star nominee Carla Rowe moves to midfield to partner Amy Connolly. Dublin Captain Lyndsey Davey switches to left half forward with the robust Kim Flood moving to the centre forward berth. The final switch upfront involves a direct swap with Eabha Rutledge moving out to the half forward line with Hannah Noonan lining out in the corner.

Mayo under new Manager Frank Browne have endured mixed results to date in the league following an eight point defeat to Cork in their opening round tie the Connacht side then enjoyed a twelve point win over Laois in their next fixture.

Sunday’s fixture should be an entertaining game of football Mayo will look to seasoned footballers Cora Staunton, Martha Carter, Fiona McHale and Yvonne Byrne for inspiration while up and coming starlet Sarah Rowe has the potential to cause problems for the Dublin defence from her usual half forward berth.
