Profile Dublin U21 Capt - Siobhan Woods

  • Jun 11,2014

Dublin will make their first appearance in a U21 All Ireland final this Sunday when they take on Meath in the 2014 Aisling McGing final.

Captain of the team is 19 year old DCU student, Siobhan Woods from Raheny GAA Club.

We asked Siobhan a few questions ahead of this Sunday's historic final.

Profile: Siobhan Woods (Dublin U21 Captain)

Toughest opponent: Sinead Goldrick (Dublin)

Favourite ground: Semple Stadium- playing the Aisling McGing Semi-final there was a great experience

Favourite sports people (GAA): Colm Cooper

Favourite sports people (Non -GAA): Jessica Ennis- Olympic gold medallist in the heptathlon at the London Games

Influences on your career: My family, as well as the different coaches I’ve trained under at both club and county level, have all influenced my career in different ways. Fintan O’Curry, who managed us through the Dublin development squads and up to minor, and Tommy Brown, who brought me into the senior panel in 2011, were particularly strong influences.

The high point of your career to date: Winning Minor Leinster and All Ireland titles in 2012

Biggest disappointment: Losing the Minor All Ireland Final in 2011

Ways of improving the game: Lose the ‘non-contact’ ideal, and instead allow for the necessary physicality of the game with a better defined rule for the tackle- currently too difficult to both execute and referee

Dislikes about the game: the sin-bin rule 10 minutes is too long in a 60 min game

Person you would most like to meet: Jessica Ennis

Pet Hates: flat footballs

Other hobbies: Catching up with my friends- Don’t have much time for anything else!

Favourite music: whatever’s on the Radio

Favourite film: The Hunger Games
