Dublin U21’s - two changes for trip to Tipp!

Dublin U21 Manager Gregory McGonigle has announced his starting fifteen for the eagerly awaited U21 All Ireland semi-final clash versus Cork which takes place this coming Sunday at 12.30 in Semple Stadium, Thurles.

Following on from their comfortable win over Tyrone, Dublin has made two changes to their line up for the clash with the reigning U21 Champions, Cork.

In defence Martha Byrne makes her first starting appearance for the U21’s following her comeback from a serious leg injury picked up in Dublin’s NFL win over Donegal back in March. Byrne replaces Aoife Nolan at left half back while Aife Kavanagh comes into the side for Maria McGrath and is named at centre forward McGrath, is unavailable for selection this weekend.

Dublin have a number of senior team regulars amongst their starting fifteen, Leah Caffrey, Deirdre Murphy, Sarah McCaffrey, Carla Rowe and team Captain Siobhan Woods all featured heavily for Dublin throughout the Tesco Home Grown NFL campaign.

Cork is expected to also name a strong line out with senior players Roisin Phelan, Emma Farmer and Doireann O’Sullivan all likely to line out for the rebels.

Both sides had a comfortable path to the semi-final but Sunday’s tussle will be a much sterner test of character for both teams the prize for the winner is an All -Ireland showdown on June 15th versus Meath.

On Thursday, Croke Park announced that the Ladies U21 All Ireland semi-final would be the “curtain raiser” ahead of the Munster hurling replay involving Cork and Waterford (3.30pm). With three hours between both throw in times it will be curious to observe just how many spectators from Dublin or indeed Cork will make the trip to Thurles to view both games.

To the diehard GAA fan intending to make the early journey to Semple Stadium, you can look forward to a superb contest by two of the major powers in Ladies Football as both teams possess some exceptionally talented footballers, keep an eye out for the gifted Doireann O’Sullivan (Cork) and Carla Rowe (Dublin), enjoy.
