Dublin Club championship 2014
The pairings for the Dublin Club championship semi-finals are now known following Wednesday night’s final round of group fixtures.
2013 senior champions Fingallians surrendered their crown last night following a pulsating tussle with St Brigids with the game being played before a sizeable Swords crowd. Last year’s runners up Na Fianna will once again face St Brigids in the semi-final both sides having meet at the same stage last season with Na Fianna edging out the Blanchardstown club in extra time.
The second semi-final will feature senior champions of 2012 Foxrock Cabinteely against the Intermediate champions of 2012, St Sylvester’s. Foxrock Cabinteely booked their place in the knock out stages with an impressive unbeaten run of games in Group B while Sylvester’s only defeat came at the hands of Na Fianna in their final group fixture.
The Intermediate championship includes three sides who have contested the last four previous finals only to experience defeat. Parnells competed in the 2010 and 2012 finals losing out to Clanna Gael Fontenoy and St Sylvester’s respectively. In 2011 Clontarf lost their final to Round Towers Clondalkin while Kilmacud Crokes where runners up to Thomas Davis in last year Intermediate decider.
St Margarets last contested a County final back in 2009 when they were crowned Junior champions the north County club will be making their first appearance in the knock out stages of the Intermediate championship.
With the exception of Lucan Sarsfields the Junior Championship is led by North County clubs. Similar to the Intermediate championship three sides have contested previous Junior Championship finals, St Maurs (2011), Lucan Sarsfields (2012) and Man O War (2013) while Clann Mhuire won the Junior B championship back in 2011.
The semi-finals are pencilled in for Wednesday July 2nd with the provincial date for all three County Finals is July 23rd.
