Championship Fever hits the Capital!

It’s the turn of the Dublin clubs to take centre stage this week as the 2014 Dublin LGFA club championship gets under way this Wednesday evening May 14th, with 16 fixtures up for decision in the Senior, Intermediate, Junior and Junior B championships.

Preview - Senior Championship

(All 7.30pm throw in times unless stated)

Clanna Gael Fontenoy v St Sylvester’s

Sean Moore Park, Ringsend

St Sylvester’s will on paper be expected to take the three points from this fixture with the assistance of County starlets, Niamh McEvoy and Sinead Aherne.  Clanna Gael Fontenoy has a number of quality players amongst their ranks and will be looking to Serena Hannon, Rachel Byrne, Rebecca McDonnell and Stacey Flood to all hit top form.  If they can rise to the challenge the potential is there for the Ringsend crew to cause an upset.

Verdict: St Sylvester’s

Thomas Davis v Na Fianna

Kiltipper Road, Tallaght

Thomas Davis has been one of the top championship club teams over the last couple of seasons advancing from junior to senior grade within two years. However the Tallaght based club will be up against a formidable Na Fianna team who narrowly lost out in last year’s final reply to Fingallians. Experience at this level might just get Na Fianna over the winning line despite the best efforts of Siobhan McGrath & Co.

Verdict: Na Fianna

Fingallians v Foxrock Cabinteely

Lawless Memorial Park, Swords

The champions of the last two seasons clash in the opening round of this year’s competition with many pundits viewing Foxrock Cabinteely as the team to beat in 2014. Sinead Goldrick has been in superb form for Dublin so far this year, Foxrock Cabinteely will be hoping that the Dublin Captain, can she bring her County form to the club scene. Fingallians will look to Sinead Finnegan, Amy McGuinness and Denise McKenna to hit top form for the Swords club.

Verdict: Foxrock Cabinteely

St Brigids v Ballyboden St Endas

Tom Russell Park, Blanchardstown

Ballyboden St Endas are no longer the dominant force in Dublin club football and their clash with St Brigids could prove to be a step too far for the former giants of the County. St Brigids have a high number of County representatives amongst their ranks, Ciara Trant, Sorcha Furlong, Noelle Healy, Deirdre Murphy and Colleen Barrett featured for Dublin seniors this season while four girls from St Brigids also featured on the recent Leinster winning Dublin Minor panel.

Verdict: St Brigids
