Leinster Minor Final 2014

Dublin over powered Westmeath yesterday by a massive thirty one points and in doing so collected their fourth Leinster title in a row.

 

Westmeath simply had no answer to the rampant Dublin forward line with corner forward Katie Murphy in sublime form kicking a remarkable 3-4 from play. The former Leinster Young Player of the Year from Ballyboden St Endas was presented with the Player of the Match Award a fitting tribute to the player following an outstanding performance.

 

Dublin got a dream start with an early goal courtesy of Leah Mullins, Westmeath responded with a point remarkably this was to be their only score in the opening thirty minutes as from then on Dublin took over with first half goals coming from the fore mentioned Murphy and Holly Greer.

 

At the interval Dublin had amassed a 13 point lead over the mid-landers, Dublin 3-05 Westmeath 0-01.

 

Dublin picked up from where they had left off and within moments of the restart had tagged on a couple of points courtesy of a Kate Fitzgibbon free and the second from the inform Katie Murphy.

 

Soon after, Murphy sealed Westmeath’s faith when she finished to the net for Dublin’s fourth and fifth goals resulting in the Ballyboden St Endas star ending the game with a hat trick.

 

Dublin’s sixth goal was scored by Leah Mullins and the seventh came moments before the final whistle when substitute Kim Garth out jumped her opponent to punch the ball into the net.

 

Final score, Dublin 7-12 Westmeath 0-02

 

Dublin will play Connacht Champions Galway in the All Ireland semi-final on July 19th a rematch of last years All Ireland decider which was won in dramatic fashion by the Tribes women.
