TESCO Home Grown NFL Div 1

Sunday March 2nd

Donegal v Dublin

Venue: Tir Conaill Park, Donegal

Referee: Gus Chapman (Sligo)

Dublin hit the road north once more this Sunday for their fourth round tie of the TESCO Home Grown NFL versus Donegal.

The Metropolitans remain unbeaten in the league having secured wins over Kerry and Mayo as well as the drawn game last weekend with Monaghan. Dublin’s opponents on Sunday, Donegal however are currently propping up the division one table having suffered defeats at the hands of Cork, Tyrone and Laois respectively.

Having endured a titanic battle and hard fought draw with Monaghan last weekend Dublin will be hoping for a less frantic and physical encounter on Sunday the game with Donegal is Dublin’s fourth fixture in as many weeks for the sky blues.

As a number of the Dublin panel where involved in college football fixtures midweek it gives Dublin boss Gregory McGonigle and his management team an opportunity to make a few changes to the Dublin starting fifteen.

Two times All Star, Siobhan McGrath moves to full back in place of Rachel Ruddy, Colleen Barrett returns from her travels to take up the left corner berth from Leah Caffrey with Martha Byrne getting her first start of the league having been named at left half back.

Up front Olivia Leonard is handed a starting role at centre forward in place on Niamh McEvoy while Lucy Collins replaces Sinead Aherne at full forward.

This week, Donegal Democrat reported the news that the Donegal Ladies senior football manager, Margaret Foy, has sensationally stepped down after less than two months in the job.

Foy, who only took up the job at the start of the year, resigned Wednesday night following a meeting with the Donegal Ladies Executive committee, she confirmed in a brief text to the Donegal paper that she had resigned and advised that any queries regarding the matter be directed to the Donegal Ladies Board chairman Micheal Naughton.

Foy also stated that she did not wish to make any further comment on the matter.

Micheal Naughton confirmed that the senior manager had stepped down after a meeting with the Executive Board and that the main officers would manage the team until a new manager is appointed.

It is understood that the meeting between the manager and the executive was specially convened to discuss team affairs.

So both on and off the field Sunday’s tussle should be an interesting encounter.
