Same again for Dubs versus Mayo

  • Feb 14,2014

As you were for Dublin…..

Dublin has named the same starting 15 that overcame the challenge of Kerry last weekend for Sunday’s eagerly awaited TESCO Homegrown NFL clash away to Mayo.

Dublin boss McGonigle had earlier in the week expressed concerns regarding the fitness of Dublin duo Siobhan McGrath and Lyndsey Davey both of whom had picked up slight knocks in last Sundays victory over the Kingdom.

Last Sunday, McGonigle took no chances regarding the injuries to both players with McGrath being substituted at half time by Martha Byrne of Cuala and Ballyboden St Endas Natalia Hyland, replacing Davey early into the second half.

The Dublin duo McGrath and Davey who are both seasoned performers for the sky blues have thankfully overcome their injury scares and resume their respective places on the Dubs starting 15, much to the relief of their management team.

McGrath most likely will be the Dublin defender who will be given the task of trying to curtail the exploits of ace Mayo forward, Cora Staunton. The Carnacon legend has already accumulated a massive 2-21 in just two games for the Connacht outfit which is managed by former Dublin boss, Peter Clarke.

Having analysed previous league results, Dublin are the County who will have to raise their game another notch if they want to return to the Capital on Sunday evening with an additional three league points in the bag.

Mayo has defeated Dublin in their last three league encounters as Tyrone found out to their peril last weekend,  Mayo Ladies are a formidable side to overcome and even more so on home soil.

John Niland of Sligo will take charge of Sunday’s clash which was switched late this evening to the Ballyheane Pitch (just outside Castlebar) at 1:30pm.

However the long term weather forecast is predicting more wet and windy weather for the weekend, don’t be surprised if this division one fixture switches again to the All-weather 3G pitch located in the Connacht Centre of Excellence in Bekan.
