All Ireland U16 semi-final;

Saturday August 10th 2013

Dublin v Cavan

Ashbourne, 2pm

Tomorrow the Sky blues face Ulster champions Cavan in the All-Ireland semi-final the U16 fixture is the first match of a double bill being played at the Ashbourne venue. The second also features Cavan as the senior team take on London in the TG4 Intermediate championship.

It's been twelve long weeks since Dublin were crowned Leinster champions having defeated Kildare on the 12th of May. The long layoff is less than ideal in terms of trying to prepare a team for the penultimate end of the championship.

Dublin manager Pat Kane will be hoping that his chargers are not hindered from their three month break and quickly return to the form that brought them through Leinster on an unbeaten run.

Both teams qualified for the semi-final following impressive provincial campaigns, Dublin accounted for Meath, Kildare, Wexford, Offaly and Laois before overcoming Kildare by 4-10 to 1-08 in the Leinster decider.

Meanwhile, Cavan clocked up impressive wins over Down, Donegal, Tyrone, Monaghan and Armagh in their group stages. The Breffni County overcame the challenge of Monaghan two weeks ago in the Ulster final on the score line of 3-08 to 1-09.

Cavan are seeking to bridge a 36 years gap having won the U16 All Ireland title for the first and only time back in 1977. Dublin last won the crown in 2010 when Fintan O'Curry chargers saw off the challenge of the Kingdom in an epic battle. Dublin also lifted the cup in 2006 having won the title for the first time back in 1989.
