Gaelic4girls programme 2013

  • Mar 15,2013

The sites for the 2013 Gaelic4girls programme were confirmed by the Ladies Gaelic Football Association. 59 clubs were chosen to host the programmes throughout the Summer in 24 county's. Clubs had been invited to apply to host a camp with the deadline for application passing on February 22nd. The lucky clubs now have an excellent opportunity to boost the numbers of girls playing within their club and help to integrate those new players in a safe and nurturing environment. Clubs will also have the opportunity to upskill their coaches as the LGFA provides free training to coaches and Co-Ordinators. The LGFA will also provide the Club with resources to market and advertise the programme.

The programme is aimed at struggling and new clubs that need to boost their numbers. The programme lasts for 12 weeks at a cost of just €8 per child. The first 8 weeks of the programme are spent teaching participants the basic skills of the game in a safe, fun and non competitive environment. The final 4 weeks of the programme are spent integrating the participants into the club where they will train with teams from their own age groups. Each club is also invited to partake in a great provincial blitz that allows both players and mentors to mix with other clubs, make new friends and enjoy a day of non-competitive action.

Speaking at the announcement of this years' host clubs National Development Manager of the LGFA, Paula Prunty, said ‘I am delighted to announce the 2013 host clubs for Gaelic4Girls. We are working hard to ensure that every girl that wishes to play football has that opportunity to do so and this is the key programme that allows us to achieve our aims. Gaelic4Girls is fun, healthy and safe for all of the participants and allows the girls to enjoy playing football without any of the competitive pressure. Clubs have the opportunity to attract new players to their teams therefore secure their futures. We look forward to getting underway now throughout the country.'

Dublin clubs, Clanna Gael Fontenoy and Trinity Gaels have been chosen for the 2013 Gaelic4girls programme, congratulations to both clubs.
