Dublin v Meath U16 report

  • Mar 07,2013

Dublin's U16s got their Leinster championship campaign off to a winning start on Sat in with a comprehensive win over Meath.

Dublin started brightly and opened the scoring early in the first half with a fine point from Shauna O'Hara and looked to be settling into the task ahead of them quite well but Meath, as you would expect, fought back and came up the field and equalised shortly afterwards, great credit is due to Dublin's defence as this proved to be Meath's only score of the half.

Dublin v Meath clashes are generally tough encounters and this game proved to be no exception with no favours asked or given throughout the first half, Dublin however where more efficient in front of goal and arrived at half time with an 8 points to 1 lead, To be fair to Meath had it not been for a fine save from Na Fianna's Catherine Murphy in the Dublin goal and another shot coming off the crossbar things might, and probably should have been a lot closer at the half.

The second half proved to be far more profitable for Dublin and when St Margarets Emma Colgan scored a goal and a point within the first 5 minutes it effectively ended the game as a real contest. Dublin pushed on from there and netted 5 more times to put a nice gloss on a solid opening performance in Leinster.

Dublin's defence will be unhappy to have conceded a late goal to Meath but can be satisfied that overall they put in an extremely strong performance with Niamh Donnelly from Naomh Olaf particularly outstanding.

Final score Dublin 6:10.....Meath 1: 6.

Next up for Dublin on the 16th of March is an away trip to play Kildare who proved too strong for Laois at the weekend.
