Leinster Minor Final preview
- May 04,2012
Dublin and Meath take to the field in Sarsfields GAA club in Newbridge tomorrow (5th May) to contest the Leinster Minor âA' championship final. Referee Des McEnery will throw the ball in at 2.45pm to start what should be an exciting minor A final.
This will be the third time that both counties have gone head to head in Leinster minor finals, in the 2010 shield final Meath had twelve points to spare, however the Jackie's turned the tables on the Royal county in 2011 albeit by the narrowest of margins when they met in the Minor A final, Dublin went on to beat Galway in the all-Ireland semi-final to book their place in the final where they faced Cork, the Rebelettes claiming the title with seven points to spare.
Both sides were unbeaten in this year's Leinster minor championship, but Dublin have an extra game under their belts winning four out of four in group A, with Meath registering three wins out of three in group B. Meath had a comfortable win over Wicklow in their first round game with the Royals Sinead Coyle notching up a personal tally of 2-6 from a total of 5-11.
They did not have it all their own way in their second round game against Wexford, but the Royals held out for a four point win to make it two out of two to set up a meeting with neighbours Kildare in the final round, and although Kildare provided a stiff test for Meath the Royals got over the winning line with four points to spare.
Laois provided the opposition in the first of the semi-finals in Boardsmill GFC on Sunday 22nd April last. The Royal led by their influential captain Kate Byrne had a seven point lead at the break and although Laois never gave up the chase they were unable to close the gap, with Meath running out comfortable winners with nine points to spare to meet Dublin in this weekend's final.
Dublin go in to this weekend's final as favourites against Meath, the Dubs dominated their group A games winning all four rounds games against Laois, Louth, Offaly and Westmeath in convincing style.
But they had to dig deep to overcome Kildare in their semi-final game, with just four points separating the side at full time. As always your supporter would be greatly appreciated. (Michael Forde Leinster PRO)
