Dublin U14 secure victory over Meath

  • Apr 16,2012

Dublin U-14s played Meath in a top of the table clash last Saturday in Boardsmill. The old cliche that it was a game of two halves was certainly applied to this match. It was all one way traffic towards Dublin's goals with a very impressive Meath team leading by 1-8 to a single point.

However just before half time, Hannah O'Neill was pulled down in the small square to earn a penalty. Full back, Erica Byrne struck home with a penalty that Messi would be proud of.

A good half time talking-to by manager Terry Jennings saw the girls come out fired up for the second half. Rachel Douglas at Centre back led the charge with a match total of 7 points, 6 from frees.

This was added to by points from Laura McGinley, Hannah Hyland, Mia Jennings and Chloe Lawless. Such was the work-rate of the six backs, that they held Meath scoreless in the second half, the final score 1-11 to 1-8 to keep Dublin on top of the table and guaranteeing them a place in the Leinster Final.
