Dubs U16's over power Lilywhites

  • Mar 05,2012

Dub's U16 boss, Fearghal Brennan came away from last Saturday's Leinster championship game with Kildare with mixed views, his young chargers had dismissed the Lilywhites on a score line of 9-19 to 2-04. Brennan must have left O'Tooles ground on Saturday wondering just how good this Dublin side are but at the same time also considering ,how poor where Kildare?

Although Dublin did have a comfortable victory, one has to be fair to Kildare, they knew coming into this encounter that they would face a stern challenge from the reigning Leinster champions. Kildare having made the move up from Leinster B championship to top flight football this season where always going to find the step up in levels a taxing challenge.

In front of a sizeable home crowd Dublin gave a solid performance, dominating every sector of the field but one concern for the Dublin management team would be the 15 missed openings in front of the Kildare posts, against stronger opposition a similar display of poor shooting could punish Dublin profoundly.

Being the early part of the season the metropolitans have plenty of time to work on tweaking their football and scoring skills with four additional round robin fixtures still to be played. The Dubs can look forward to a trip down to the sunny south east to take on Wexford on March 24th next.

Wexford experienced a comfortable win over Meath in their opening round game, with the final score reading, Meath 4-7 Wexford 7-12.

Wexford with their tails up will relish the visit of the Dubs they also have the potential to cause an upset; Dublin will have to hit top form if they intend to keep their unbeaten run in Leinster intact...
