Young Dubs in action tomorrow versus Kildare

  • Mar 02,2012

Dublin begin the defence of their U14 and U16 Leinster crowns tomorrow Saturday March 3rd as both panels take on the challenge of Kildare in the opening round of their Leinster campaigns.

St Laurences O'Toole GAA club are hosting both fixtures at their Ayrfield ground located on Blunden Drive, first up is the U14's fixture at 2pm followed by the U16 clash at 3.30pm

Dublin and Kildare met at U14 level on two occasions last season, on March 5th Dublin defeated Kildare in round one of the competition by 7-17 to 1-01, both sides met again this time in the Leinster final where once again the metropolitans proved to be too strong a challenge for the Lilywhites with Dublin lifting the Leinster cup on a score line of 8-13 to 2-03.

Terry Jennings of Kilmacud Crokes is in charge of the Dublin U14 squad this season, he will be fully aware that previous results count for nothing in football. Terry will be hoping for a solid performance from his young chargers with many donning the sky blue jersey for the first time on Saturday.

Kildare and Dublin haven't met at U16 level for a couple of season's so tomorrows clash will be an interesting encounter. The 2011 season had mixed results for both Counties, Dublin won the U16 Leinster title having had solid performances throughout their championship campaign but the young Dubs aspirations to win back to back All Ireland titles came undone against an excellent Kerry outfit, lead by young Munster player of the year Laura Rogers, Kerry winning their first U16  All -Ireland since 1999. Earlier at the same venue, Kildare defeated Limerick to capture the U16 B Shield title, five of that Kildare winning side will be in action against Dublin tomorrow.

Fearghall Brennan remains in charge of the Dublin U16 panel and is looking forward to the start of the season, three of his panel are involved in the TESCO Post Primary Schools Senior C All Ireland semi-final today in Carlow with their school, Loreto SS Balbriggan. Fearghall will be hoping that vice-captain Aoife Curran, Sinead O'Keefe and Francesca Blasio all come through their game unscathed.

The action gets underway at 2pm with Tom McEnteggart of Louth the match official in charge for both ties.
