Dublin Minors start Leinster Campaign with a win

Leinster Minor Championship.

Dublin 5-15 Offaly 0-6

Dublin got off to a flying start in the Leinster Minor championship in Ferbane last Sunday. Dublin started strongly and kept the intensity up right to the end. Nora Harney was ever reliable in goal and had great distance and accuracy with her kick-outs.

The full back line of Rachel Dwyer, Deirdre Murphy and Kim White were always vigilant and kept a tight rein on the Offaly forwards. The half-back line of Gráinne Barrett, Leah Caffrey and Aoife Nolan snapped up the breaks and delivered the ball quickly to the forwards.

At mid-field Emma McDonagh, Sarah McCaffrey and in the second half Olwen Carey worked tirelessly both in defence and in attack. Molly Lamb and Carla Rowe did some excellent work creating scoring chances and Lauren Ebbs at centre forward displayed some deadly finishing.

The full forward line of Laura O Curry, Maria Kenny and Ciara McGuigan gave the Offaly full-back line a torrid time. Their work rate and finishing was excellent. It is a measure of Dublin dominance that at half-time Dublin lead by 4-9 to 0-4.

In the second half Elinor Doherty, Ciara Trant, Lorna Colgan and Claire King came on in the back line and Siobhán Woods, Margaret Mohan, Maria McGrath and Steffi Adams came on in the forwards. The Dublin backline again kept the Offaly scoring chances down to a minimum.

The forwards kept the pace up and added a further 1-6 to give a final score of Dublin 5-14, Offaly 0-6. Offaly never gave up the fight and Emma Corcoran and Kym Furey impressed in the forward line.

Dublin may face stiffer tests in the future but all of the girls can be proud of their performances. 10 players got on the scoreboard and the work rate of all the players was very impressive. All of the Dublin scores were from play.
